Most of you are familiar with the latest craze that we all know as Instagram. It's basically a way of sharing your life in pictures, but with the added fun of adding filters. Now sure you can add filters in any program, but for some reason it seems to be used a lot on Instagram.
Now, before I go on, I must say I am 100% head over heels in love and attached to the addictive program. I love the ability to see and comment on other photographers' work from all around the world. It's like a daily inspiration and exploration. Not to mention the thrill of when another photographer (who is really talented) follows me. It's all exciting and in good fun. Find me @photobudd he he :)
The thing is I am always tempted to filter photos, and often choose not to so that they will not be "fake". It's just so tempting because some of the filters make an awful photo somewhat interesting. So the question is, does filtering make it fake? A scam? I don't really know the answer... Maybe it depends on the photo, the style, how much editing etc. Keep in mind the wonderful Photoshop is in this category too. I don't know, I think it's something most photographers bear in mind and try to be cautious of, but what about the people on Insta who call themselves "professionals" and are the farthest from that. Is it ruining the profession of photography and giving it a bad name? Will people lower their standards and accept poor to mediocre work as pro status eventually? Will people start hiring wedding photographers to shoot their wedding on their smart phone and filter it in Instagram? Just some thoughts to ponder. My mind goes on and on with questions when it comes to this. For now, I will continue to have fun with it. Here are two pictures, one filtered and one not. You decide what is better or right..
We will call picture on the left "no" and picture on the right "yes"
You tell me no or yes?? feel free to vote no or yes and leave feedback :)
